Alfonso Chacón reports, 1578-1589.

Collection includes: A 16 p. report dated Rome 1578 July 9 on the discovery of the Cemetery of St. Priscilla, Rome (Cemetarium Jordanorum); a 2 p. report to Giuseppe Castalioni 1589 July 3 containing the history of an incident known as the Miracle of the Thundering Legion that occured on an expedition of Marcus Aurelius, with four apparently unrelated sketches in pencil depicting two bishops, a ram's head and an architectural frieze; notes on the Chinese and Etruscan alphabets copied from sources in the Vatican Library, with a sketch of the leg of the Chimaera of Arezzo bearing an Etruscan inscription provided by Gabriel Gabriele of Gubbio (Rome 1582); a thesaurus compiled from an antique source; and a long commentary about giants (with a 1642 addition on the subject), as witnessed throughout Europe and as recorded in Virgil and Homer - 24p.
